Welcome!

My interest in Amateur Radio comes from several angles... hope you'll enjoy tuning into some of my frequencies. ~ 73, Susan

The Hallicrafters S-38: My father was an engineer for Hallicrafters in Chicago, where he designed and built their S-38 receiver in 1945. Naturally, the S-38 was the first radio in my collection... probably with more to follow. (Hit link above to read more.)

Morse Code: I used to tap out Morse code as a child, and I'm hoping those dim memories will help me get my Morse qualification! In a world of increasingly complex communications, it's nice to know that a system as fundamental as Morse code endures.

Rare Earth Antennas: I first became interested in rare earth metals as an emerging commodity market. Reading about the qualities of the 17 elements, it's fascinating to think about how they might be applied to radio antenna technology. I'm hoping to learn enough through Ham practice to be able to experiment.

India India Echo: My choice of call sign is a reflection of my great affection for India. I look forward to connecting with the community of 16,000 Hams in India, which includes many friends across the subcontinent.

Emergency Preparedness: Aside from the fact that we live in a quake zone on the Ring of Fire, there's a long list of reasons our family takes preparedness seriously. We're involved in various community preparedness and sustainable living efforts, locally and worldwide, and Ham radio ensures we'll always be connected.

Celestial Events: I've long been interested in meteors, CME's and anomalous changes in the magnetosphere, and there's been a great deal of activity in all these areas of late. I'll be interested to learn how Ham operation is affected by these celestial forces.
